  • S1(2). Planning a $7,000/Month Journey

    中文版本

Welcome to Week 0 of my 12 Week Year experiment at theclancyjack.art! I’m diving into a bold mission: earning $7,000 per month through affiliate marketing in just 12 weeks. This post outlines the structure, strategy, and execution plan, leveraging the 12 Week Year framework to turn ambition into reality. From studying key concepts to choosing a high-potential business idea and crafting a detailed roadmap, here’s how I’m setting the stage for success. Follow along at theclancyjack.art/executions/ for weekly updates!

    Week 0: Laying the Foundation

Week 0 is all about preparation—reviewing the 12 Week Year methodology, selecting a focus, and building a data-driven plan. I’ve spent time exploring the book’s website, worksheets, and content to internalize its principles. Here’s a quick overview:

Key Concepts of the 12 Week Year

Success isn’t about knowing what to do—it’s about doing it. Traditional annual plans often fail due to long timeframes that dilute focus and execution. The 12 Week Year, developed by Brian P. Moran and Michael Lennington, compresses a year’s goals into 12 weeks, creating urgency and accountability. Its core principles are:

    • Vision: Set clear, specific goals.
    • 12-Week Planning: Break goals into weekly, actionable steps.
    • Tracking & Adjustment: Use scorecards to log daily progress and optimize weekly.
    • Tools: Scorecards for metrics (e.g., completion rate, outcomes) and action lists for task management.
    • Methodology: Prioritize high-impact actions, execute with discipline, and iterate quickly to stay on track.

This data-driven system eliminates yearly procrastination, accelerating goal achievement. Want to dive deeper? Grab the book—it’s a game-changer!

Part 1: Choosing a Business Idea

I’ve set a daring goal: $7,000 per month in passive income. It’s so ambitious it feels nearly impossible. Yet, I believe we only achieve what we aim for, and big wins often require the same effort as small ones—just with different challenges. Inspired by stories of rapid content success and today’s digital opportunities, I’m convinced it’s achievable if I follow the right methods. My mantra? Set a clear goal and relentlessly pursue the correct strategy.

Choosing the Focus: n8n Affiliate Promotion

After exploring ideas like sticker design, Kindle Direct Publishing, and Threads bots, I’ve zeroed in on promoting n8n, a trending automation tool. Why n8n? It aligns perfectly with a “correct” strategy:

    • Riding the Wave: n8n is a hot topic, tapping into the trend of automation.
    • High-Profit Potential: Its 30% recurring affiliate commission offers stable, long-term income—ideal for my monthly revenue goal over one-off gains.
    • Blue Ocean Opportunity: While others promote n8n, few use websites or AI for scalable, customized content like workflow templates. This gap is ripe with potential.
    • Market Timing: Early adopters are just entering, and history shows the second wave often reaps the biggest rewards. My gut says this is the one.

No more guesswork. Inspired by Growth Hacker Marketing and Traffic Secrets, I’m embracing a data-driven approach, ditching blind experimentation for strategic execution.

Part 2: Turning the Goal into Achievable Data

How do I generate $7,000/month? Let’s break it down with numbers.

    Crunching the Numbers

For n8n’s Starter Plan ($21.20/month or $16.96/month annually):

    • Commission: Monthly plan = $6.36/user; annual plan = $61.06/year ($5.09/month). Assuming half choose each, the average is $5.73/user/month.
    • Required Users: $7,000 ÷ $5.73 ≈ 1,222 active paying users by Week 12.

I’m starting with the Starter Plan to target the broadest market, with plans to explore Pro/Enterprise plans later if opportunities arise.

    Traffic and Conversion Goals

Hitting 1,222 users requires traffic and a solid conversion rate. Based on affiliate marketing benchmarks (1–5% for SaaS), I’m targeting a 3% conversion rate, achievable with high-value content like AI-generated n8n templates. Here’s the math:

    • Total Users Needed: With a 15% churn rate, I need 1,704 new users over 12 weeks (≈142 users/week).
    • Traffic Needed: At 3%, 1,704 users require 56,800 visitors total (≈4,733/week or 947/day, assuming 5 workdays).
    • Upside Scenario: At 5% conversion, traffic drops to 34,080 visitors (≈568/day)—more feasible.
    • Downside Scenario: At 1%, I’d need 170,400 visitors (≈2,840/day)—a stretch, but a reminder to optimize early.

    The Plan

My goal is clear: Drive 56,800 visitors in 12 weeks at a 3% conversion rate to secure 1,222 active users and $7,000/month. I’ll leverage SEO, social media, and AI-driven content to hit daily traffic targets, starting small and scaling fast.

    Initial Weekly Execution Plan

This rough draft maps the numbers into weekly milestones to visualize the results needed for success.

    Preliminary Plan (Draft)

    12 Week Scorecard

    Week 1

    • Results: Website setup progress (50% complete), visitors (~500), converted users (500 × 3% = 15).
    • Active Users: 15.
    • YTD Income: 15 × $5.73 ≈ $86.
    • Execution: Action completion rate (e.g., 2/3 actions completed, 66% execution rate).

    Week 4

    • Results: Website live, visitors (~6,145), converted users (6,145 × 3% ≈ 184).
    • Active Users: 15 (Week 1 retention) + 15 (Week 2 retention) + 15 (Week 3 retention) + 184 = 229.
    • YTD Income: 229 × $5.73 ≈ $1,312.
    • Execution: Target execution rate 85%+.

    Week 12

    • Results: Visitors over last 9 weeks (6,600 × 9 = 59,400), new users (59,400 × 3% = 1,782).
    • Total New Users: 45 (first 3 weeks) + 1,782 = 1,827.
    • Active Users: ~1,222 after retention (meets target).
    • YTD Income (Week 12 monthly income): 1,222 × $5.73 ≈ $7,000 (target achieved).
    • Adjustment: If conversion rate rises to 5%, new users = 59,400 × 5% = 2,970, exceeding the active user target with higher income.

Part 3: Refining the 12 Week Plan with Proven Strategies

As you can see, my initial plan was a rough sketch—ambitious but lacking precision. Having studied Growth Hacker Marketing by Ryan Holiday, Zero to One by Peter Thiel, Traffic Secrets by Russell Brunson, The Lean Startup by Eric Ries, and Smartcuts by Shane Snow, I’m now sharpening this blueprint. My goal has shifted from “make money” to data-driven growth, turning vague aspirations into a clear, actionable path. Here’s how I’m refining the plan to drive 56,800 visitors, achieve a 3% conversion rate, and hit $7,000/month by Week 12.

Applying Core Concepts from Five Key Books

    1. Growth Hacker Marketing (Ryan Holiday)
      • Core Ideas: Achieve product-market fit (PMF) with minimal viable products (MVPs), use low-cost/high-impact marketing, and iterate based on data.
      • Application: Test n8n use cases (e.g., e-commerce automation) via Medium and Threads posts in Weeks 1–3 as MVPs. Share free n8n workflow templates (e.g., Shopify order automation) to spark viral sharing. Analyze weekly click-through and conversion data to optimize content. If e-commerce posts perform best, focus Week 4’s website content on e-commerce automation to boost conversions.
    2. Zero to One (Peter Thiel)
      • Core Ideas: Create unique value in a blue ocean market and dominate a niche before scaling.
      • Application: My AI-powered “n8n workflow generator” is a unique offering, untapped by most n8n affiliates. Target small e-commerce owners with tailored workflows (e.g., order processing, marketing emails). Optimize SEO for “n8n Starter Plan for e-commerce” and position the site as their go-to automation resource, carving out a niche monopoly.
    3. Traffic Secrets (Russell Brunson)
      • Core Ideas: Use a “Dream 100” strategy to leverage influencers, build a content funnel (awareness to conversion), and diversify traffic sources.
      • Application:
        • Dream 100: Partner with n8n community influencers (e.g., Reddit’s r/n8n) by offering free workflows, aiming for 200 visitors/week from Week 4.
        • Content Funnel:
          • Awareness: Post educational Medium/Threads articles and YouTube tutorials (e.g., “5-Minute n8n Starter Plan Guide”).
          • Engagement: Drive traffic to in-depth blog posts and an AI workflow tool on the site.
          • Conversion: Embed clear CTAs (“Try n8n Starter Plan”) with affiliate links.
        • Multi-Channel Traffic: Combine SEO (2,400 visitors/week), social media (2,000), YouTube (1,200), forums (300), influencer collabs (200), and small-budget Google Ads (900) to exceed 6,145 visitors/week by Week 4.
    4. The Lean Startup (Eric Ries)
      • Core Ideas: Use Build-Measure-Learn cycles, validate assumptions with MVPs, and iterate rapidly.
      • Application: Treat Weeks 1–3 Medium/Threads posts as MVPs to test the assumption “small e-commerce owners want n8n automation.” By Week 3, launch a simple AI tool MVP (supporting 3–5 e-commerce scenarios) to validate if customized workflows boost conversions. Iterate based on usage data—e.g., add inventory sync workflows if order automation performs well.
    5. Smartcuts (Shane Snow)
      • Core Ideas: Hack traditional paths, simplify processes, leverage superconnectors, think 10x, and build momentum.
      • Application: Skip slow blog-building by testing demand on Medium/Threads. Simplify the AI tool to 3–5 workflows for quick launch. Collaborate with n8n influencers for rapid exposure. Set a bold vision (“the top n8n automation resource”) to drive engagement. Use early wins (e.g., high Medium engagement) to fuel Week 4’s site launch momentum.

    Refined 12 Week Action Plan

    1. Market Testing & Validation (Weeks 1–3)
      • Post on Medium, Threads, Lenny’s community, and n8n’s official channels to test e-commerce automation demand. Share educational content (e.g., “Automate Shopify Orders with n8n”) and track engagement. Refine based on top-performing topics.
    2. Build Website & AI Tool MVP (Weeks 1–4)
      • Launch a simple WordPress site with blogs targeting e-commerce owners and SEO for “n8n Starter Plan for e-commerce.” Develop an AI tool MVP using n8n’s template library, offering 3–5 workflows (e.g., order processing) with affiliate-linked CTAs.
    3. Multi-Channel Traffic (Weeks 4–12)
      • Drive traffic via SEO, social media, YouTube, forums, influencer collabs, and small-budget Google Ads. Share free templates with n8n influencers to amplify reach. Aim for 6,145+ visitors/week by Week 4.
    4. Conversion Optimization & Iteration (Weeks 4–12)
      • Build a funnel: Medium/YouTube for awareness, blogs/AI tool for engagement, CTAs for conversion. Track AI tool usage and iterate features (e.g., add workflows) to hit 3–5% conversion.
    5. Track & Adjust (Daily/Weekly)
      • Log visitors, AI tool usage, and conversions daily. Review execution rate (target: 85%+) weekly, adjusting channels or content based on data (e.g., scale YouTube if it outperforms).
    6. Build Momentum & Reputation (Weeks 4–12)
      • Share goals on Reddit’s r/n8n for accountability. Join weekly accountability meetings. Submit templates to n8n’s official library for citations, boosting credibility and traffic.

    Why This Matters

Chapter 1: The Challenge of Execution

Core Concept: Success lies not in knowing what to do, but in doing it. Traditional annual plans often fail due to their long timeframes, which weaken execution.

    Key Points:

    • Annual goals frequently fail due to a lack of urgency.
    • The 12 Week Year shortens the timeframe, enhancing execution.
    • Execution is the critical factor separating success from failure.

Application: Reflect on past unmet annual goals and identify execution barriers (e.g., procrastination or distractions).

    Chapter 2: Redefining the Year

Core Concept: Redefine a “year” as 12 weeks to create urgency and boost focus.

    Key Points:

    • A 12-week cycle encompasses planning, execution, and review.
    • Shorter cycles reduce procrastination and yield faster results.
    • Each 12-week cycle ends with a fresh start.

Application: Choose an annual goal, condense it into a 12-week plan, and list priority actions.

Chapter 3: Great Things Never Come from Comfort Zones

Core Concept: Success requires a mindset shift, stepping out of comfort zones, and embracing discomfort.

    Key Points:

    • Growth happens through uncomfortable actions (e.g., proactively contacting clients).
    • Take 100% responsibility and stop blaming external factors.
    • Focus on actions, not outcomes.

Application: Identify one uncomfortable but goal-critical action (e.g., public speaking) and try it this week.

Chapter 4: Vision: Creating a Compelling Future

Core Concept: A clear vision inspires action; long-term visions must be broken into short-term goals.

    Key Points:

    • Write a 3-5 year ultimate vision aligned with personal values.
    • Break the vision into specific 12-week goals.
    • The vision must be inspiring to drive sustained action.

    • Review scorekeeping data weekly to adjust actions.
    • Scorekeeping enhances accountability.

Application: Choose a lead indicator for a goal (e.g., weekly workouts) and track it for 12 weeks using a calendar or app.

    Chapter 8: Time Use

Core Concept: Effective time management is the foundation of execution; prioritize key actions.

    Key Points:

    • Use time blocking to reserve dedicated time for key actions.
    • Minimize low-value activities (e.g., unnecessary meetings).
    • Focus daily on high-impact tasks.

Application: Schedule 2-3 time blocks (e.g., 9-10 AM) in your calendar for goal-focused actions.

    Chapter 9: Accountability as Ownership

    • Distinguish between “want to do” and “must do” actions.
    • Commitment requires sacrificing short-term comfort for long-term success.

Application: Choose a goal and ask, “Am I 100% committed?” List potential obstacles and plan to overcome them.

Chapter 11: Greatness in the Moment

Core Concept: Success is built from small, present-moment actions; focus on the quality of each action.

    Key Points:

    • Every action is an opportunity to advance toward your goal.
    • Stay focused during critical moments, like key meetings or tasks.
    • Present efforts shape future outcomes.

Application: Choose an important task today (e.g., writing a report), complete it with full focus, and note your experience.

    Chapter 12: The Execution System

Core Concept: A structured execution system transforms plans into consistent actions.

    Key Points:

    • Weekly planning: Create an action list at the start of each week.
    • Daily tracking: Record completion of key actions.
    • Weekly Accountability Meetings (WAM): Review progress with a team.

Application: Try weekly planning this week, list 3 key actions, and track completion daily.

    Chapter 13: Establish Your Vision

  • S1(1). 12-Week Entrepreneurship Accelerator : Vision Setting and Action Framework

This will be the season 1 hustle journey. Financial Goal: Create sufficient stable income ($7,000)

    Vision Setting and Action Framework

    Reflection and Review

I last seriously considered my plans two months ago when I flew back to Taiwan and had the opportunity to thoroughly read “The 12 Week Year.” Unexpectedly, once the semester got busy, these plans were put aside. The website plans I initially wrote have become vague after a year, and I can barely remember what I wrote.

To truly drive progress, I will reset my goals and adopt “The 12 Week Year” methodology, focusing on short-term objectives and ensuring execution. I’ll no longer let plans remain merely at the conceptual stage.

    Major Goals Recap

Financial Goal: Create sufficient stable income ($7,000) during my spare time or earn enough to cover my next four years at Berklee. This will allow me to continue happily studying music in the United States.

Personal Achievement Goal: Prove to myself that I can complete an entire entrepreneurial cycle over an extended period and truly create interesting things. Learn how to prioritize and bring dreams to reality.

Focus Direction: Deep Dive into n8n

For the next 12 weeks, my focus will be extending my recent research into n8n. I’ve already developed the capability to build several good backend services:

    1. Ability to connect web backends for data processing and AI content generation
    2. Ability to create “character profiles” with scripts that enable regular, scheduled posting on Threads

The design concept of n8n aligns well with my inclination toward developing automation software. Therefore, I hope these 12 weeks will utilize my automation software development experience, marketing knowledge, and monetization ideas to create a tangible product. My focus areas will be:

    1. Develop software and complete potential monetization projects/bots
    2. Upload templates to earn official influencer status and potentially reach the Leaderboard rankings as an initial credential
    3. Write articles targeting potential n8n audiences and implement affiliate marketing monetization processes

Of course, this isn’t yet a detailed enough plan. I will create a more detailed 12-week structural plan.

Here are projects I’m interested in trying but will temporarily set aside to maintain focus:

    1. Collaborate with an influencer to launch stickers using my Midjourney and GPT subscriptions as an initial POC to verify feasibility and evaluate benefits
    2. Evaluate whether to continue my automatic PromptBase product listings
    3. Study Lenny’s newsletter to learn how skilled writers craft their content
    4. Research how good blog posts are written and draft a structure for my future projects
    5. Research Threads and newsletters to determine an exposure channel/system
    6. Launch a simple SaaS service as a test
    7. Create a small game
    8. Develop an app

I’ll work on these secondary projects during leisure time when I might otherwise be unproductive.
