“A Baby Step at a Time”, keeping the idea and momentum from yesterday, there are several approaches I’ve done.
Habit Stacking
First, implementing the framework from Atomic Habits, especially the technique of “Habit Stacking” which is a framework to construct cues for important habits.
There are several habit-link that I constructed:
- Once I scroll on social media for 10min -> Put down my phone.
- When I start my daily work -> Open Heptabase and start everything on paper.
The reason for second link is I feel frustrated when there is a lot of work. I often can decide which to start. Start from fundamental training? or start from the showpiece? or creativity work? By making this link, It forces me to get into a working mood, check my own blueprint, start from the most important things, or change any priority if necessary.
Another handy technique is “Identity Change,” which consistently gives me a map on how to become a better musician.
Identity Change
“There are three level of change: outcome change, process change, and identity change.”
Automic Habits
When I constructed an identity of “A detailed-oriented jazz player with solid fundamental training,” I came across an action: “This jazz player will focus on every touch when he practices. He will pay attention to the clarity, the touch, and always play in gentle.”
This mindset guided me today, and the reminder of better touch has reminded me multiple times without any effort.
