Day 99. Handed Out Second-Hand Product, Meet Friend, Buildspace Lecture 1. 7 Week Practice Rouotine Study.

I have several appointments to hand out my secondhand stuff. Practice guitar in the middle. Since I don’t know what it takes to get good at guitar, I started reading “The 7-Day Practice Routine For Guitarists” by Craig Smith. the book is easier than I thought, bo bs and get to the point real quick. I’m going to experiment with it for a while, hope I find some insight in guitar practice.

Having a great meal with my friend tonight.

After that, at 1:30 am I got Buildspace’s lecture 1, idea.

buildspace lecture 1, idea

This week is all about locking down our idea. we are spending the rest of 5 week to work on this single idea, so they give us a week to really think through our ideas.

“If you never commit, you’ll never end up working on it.” this is the core idea of this lecture. After that, Fraza share a lot of story about what role this idea is taken.

“no good or bad ideas, ideas are starting points.” the fact that we are going to find out different insights and gain different resources, there is no need to overemphasis on the first idea. actually ideas should be “changed” in some way over every week. so it is important to set the direction to something you are passion about, and kind of tweak this along the way.

→ this idea is more a direction and action guidance.
→ the main point is more about getting you start the work, momentum + weekly iteration = somewhere different

Since it is impossible to have an idea at the beginning, even along the way, Fraza said “You never ‘figure it out’ once you do, the goals have changed. your ideas change. people change. you change.”

The key and tricky mindset will be: get comfy with never figuring out.

Idea for me

Creating a unique music brand is all about having leverage and creating beautiful things that I’m proud of. However, there is always a sound that makes me feel shit about this. do people really need this kind of content? will I just create content that no one will ever like?

I know it is weird to think like this since I have lots of experience on creating things and make it work. I have no idea why this time I have such a big struggle.

Also, I’m so stuck at the beginning, I’m spending so much time trying to play but never recording or making something. I feel I’m so afraid of recording myself. I think my guitar, my music sucks.

I DON’T KNOW WHERE ALL THESE CAME FROM.

To critique myself in a third-person view, I may have stalled these things for way too long and it makes me feel powerless and ashamed.

This lead to the second problem.

I’m bad at being my own coach, this is my current bottleneck. I’m able to practice(be a student), find resources and self-taught (be a teacher) but I can’t and too lazy? or afraid to try to critique myself. I need to let myself know: “You should set a clear time limit”, “you should need a clear sentence describing what you are doing”, “you need to start in a week.”

ahh. still afraid.

Some Notes for The 7 Day Practice Routine For Guitarists

Monday’s Schedule was all about picking and left-hand strength. The first 4 notes sequence (green column) surprised me, though it is really simple at the “1234” sequence, “1243” or “1423” sometime I make bad sounds! This simple practice has take those minor muscle memory under review.
